Also, I’m really looking forward to the release of El Cantante, which is due out on August 3. From the trailer, it looks really good, at least from a music/dance perspective. I’m glad more people will learn about Hector Lavoe’s musical legacy.

Something you should know about El Cantante, at least from the music historians and salsa lovers’ perspective is that there is, to put it mildly, a GREAT deal of dramatic license in the film and that a lot of people who knew Hector, or worked with him when he was still alive, weren’t consulted on the film. So, if you go to see it, go for the music but don’t expect an accurate, or good, biography about his life.

Leave it to you, Mr Salsa 411 to know these things! Have you seen it?
From what I’ve heard, it does seem to follow the same formula as Ray and Walk The Line– humble beginnings, beat the odds, huge success, heroin addiction, supportive woman.
