I’m getting behind on this reality TV thing, and the season hasn’t even started yet. I only watch the dance ones (and Project Runway), and it seems there is more on the horizon! There is lots of buzz about some new shows, and this whole debate about whether So You Think You Can Dance is good or bad for the world of dance just won’t go away.
So You Think You Can Dance fever
- The Winger’s Kristin Sloan weighs in on a Chinese TV dance contest and on SYTYCD. Was she pushed into subtly weighing in on SYTYCD on her blog due to pressure from this post by Swan Lake Samba Girl? Tonya’s post was in turn inspired by this article from the NYT’s Claudia La Rocco: TV Viewers Discover Dance, and the Debate is Joined. Ms. La Rocco talked to some folks from around the dance world about how they perceive SYTYCD. Tonya’s beef was that with all the bloggers around the blogosphere chatting up SYTYCD night and day, why did Ms. La Rocco only speak with one blogger, and one who has never once posted anything about SYTYCD?
- Blogging So You Think You Can Dance is looking for tour correspondents. I’ll be representing at the Baltimore show (yep, I got tickets– thanks Beto!!!)
More reality TV buzz
- Bravo is now auditioning for its new dance reality show, Step It Up which will feature dancers already in the industry trying to make it big. Doug thinks that if any network can do a reality show tastefully, it is Bravo. Doug, you obviously have not seen WorkOut!
- ABC is auditioning for Dance War: Bruno vs Carrie Ann which on the flip side, will feature amateur dancers trying to learn different dance styles under the tutelage of two of the judges from Dancing With the Stars. This sounds like the perfect venue for me to get my big break! Do you think they’ll take me after the things I said about their show?
Wow, I am so overwhelmed by the number of links in this post and I know I’m probably forgetting something that I bookmarked. Anyhoo, I recommend Blogging SYTYCD for the latest on both SYTYCD and the other dance reality shows.

Haha, thanks for paraphrasing me better than I seemed to be able to communicate myself yesterday. It’s like my brain was stuffed with cotton candy or something… Anyway, that’s exactly what I meant!
Regarding the new Bruno / Carrie show, I was thinking about your earlier post on DWtS and was thinking, I would probably like it better if it was average people getting a kind of makeover through dance rather than celebrities. It would be like the people you see on home improvement or those cosmetic makeover shows (I don’t watch very much TV either besides the dance shows) — people you can really feel compassion for because of real problem they’ve had to overcome and you want to root for them, instead of all the silly celebrities. But then I guess the show would be harder to sell to the average viewer… Hmmm…
I really like Blogging SYTYCD too. I’m going to the New York show — I’ll be a correspondent for that one!

Hi Maria – thanks for visiting my blog. I was surprised to see a comment there from someone other than friends and family, but after having a look at your blog, I understand. Wasnt sure whether or not you were aware that the Very Nice Looking Shoes are Comme Il Faut.. There`s a Comme Il Faut on-seller in Washington DC. http://julia-bella.com – although I don`t imagine that Comme Il Fauts would be much good for salsa!
Cheers

Hi tanguera, Thanks for stopping by! I came across your blog via the WordPress tag surfer– I’m always on the lookout for other dance blogs. If you don’t want others to see it you may want to refrain from using tags or put on some sort of password protection. At any rate, I really enjoyed looking at your shoe pictures
I appreciate the tip for where to buy the comme il fauts, but I just bought two pairs of salsa shoes and don’t know how to tango (yet…). Maybe I will visit the shop “just to see”.

Hey, Maria!
Love the blog. I find it hilarious that The Winger featured SYTYCD just after Swan Lake Samba Girl questioned why they didn’t. So I’m not the only one that reads every dance blog out there…
Thanks for the link, btw. I adore Blogging SYTYCd also and would be a tour correspondent if it weren’t for my own blog.
Happy blogging!
Stay on your toes,
Selly
