And now, my pretty new salsa shoes…
These black and gold ones are a new brand for me, Stephanie. Aren’t they purty? They are very lightweight and I can hardly feel them on me. The sole is incredibly flexible, more than I’ve had before, and I’m interested to see if it will be easier to dance on. The fastening is of the quick-release variety; you set the buckle to the tightness you want and then you slip it through a hook to fasten it. I haven’t tried these on the dancefloor yet, but hopefully this new brand will work out for me.
These are Elegance dance shoes, the empress model. It is a very snug fit and I’m looking forward to the added protection afforded by the smaller toe hole in the front. I actually got these to match a dress I got for a performance. They are a nice neutral color, but I think I’m going to have to scotchgard the suede so it doesn’t stain. Although I really like Elegance shoes (very sturdy construction, lots of cushioning and a good fit for me), I’m not such a fan of the fastening. You have to squeeze the strap through a tiny little slot that holds it in place through a tensioning mechanism. It takes forever to do, and for that reason I will never buy Elegance shoes that have more than one fastening, such as a double or triple strap.
I got these a while ago, but I’ve hardly worn them out as the fit is a little too loose. I also had to get the buckle fixed (they are Elegance shoes and the tensioning mechanism I mentioned on the buckle is kind of flimsy and fell out on these). They are gorgeous, though, aren’t they? When I start tango lessons these are the ones I’m going to wear.
Inspired by Miss Tango, I am going to name my salsa shoes. Comments are open for suggestions.
I have already named one pair (not shown here). I’m calling them “Old Faithful” because they are old, reliable, and they kind of smell, but not really of sulphur.

I have to say that since I started reading your blog I have been very taken with the idea of salsa dancing. Now that I see the gorgeous shoes I think I am a definite starter. (Will have to be very disciplined not to buy the shoes before I start the lessons!)

I would name the nude shoes either Harlow or Rubia, for the nakedness. The strappy black ones Ute after the german performer I just read about yesterday. And the pair at the top also deserve a old hollywood glamour name, whoever your favorite is. or maybe Salma, she´s a little hottie!

Musicwork, shoes are as good a reason as any for getting into salsa. The dresses are fun, too! Furthermore, while a good pair of shoes will not make you a better dancer, they will help you dance at your own best because they give you the proper balance and flexibility.
Miss Tango, how did you know of my love for Salma? So the magic gold and black shoes are hereby christened my ‘Salma Hayeks.’ I like your suggestions for the other ones but will have to contemplate it.

Hi Maria,
I just had to see those salsa shoes on your blogsite. I lovvvveeee the first pair (black/gold). They almost look like tango shoes. I took up salsa a year ago and my very first pair of salsa shoes were gold… yep, bright yellow gold, even though the saleslady tried hard to talk me out of them. I bought them anyway and said someday I’ll be good enough of a salsa dancer to wear them proudly. I have worn them since but they were definitely a real motivator for me to work harder at my dance. Love your blog! Makes me want to cheat on tango! ; )

Ayy, she is so luscious. It’s incredible how so many women who are otherwise straight are in love with Salma. Interestingly, I’ve found fewer women than men who are into her. I guess there is something very womanly and sassy about her that appeals to women, and her figure seems more realistic and curvaceous to me than a lot of celebs.

Yes, she is lucious in a very natural way. If she has been enhanced by the surgeons knife, he is a fantastic artist, as my eye can not detect a thing! And I am the Queen of Plastic Surgery Detection after many years in the beauty industry.

oooooh shoes…I got my first ever pair of high heels to wear with my skirts. Less elegant than these, clunky really, but comfortable, or actually as uncomfortable as I’m willing to get…
…lovely…
